When the game first loads up, you will be prompted with a GUI that allows you to define how you would like to be referred to, what you will look like, and where you will spawn. If you want to have a fully survival experience put effort into this screen. Without commands and cheats, you will not be able to change your body shape and size, hair and skin color, or extra traits.

Creative Changes

Once you have created your character, you may get into the game then realize you either want to switch back to your regular skin or to the skin you just made that was meant to be for reproductive purposes that you actually really like (or just wanted to have the animations of). In order to do this you will need to run the following command:

/mca editor

This will allow you to switch between your vanilla skin and the character you created. This command does not require cheats to work, however cheats on will allow you to also edit your character.

Survival Changes

To change your MCA skin without the use of cheats, there are 4 items that you can make that will allow it.

The first of the four is the comb. The comb allows you to change your hairstyle, but not your hair color.

This is made using 2 iron bars and 3 iron ingots as below.

The second is the needle and thread. This will allow you to change your clothing. 

This is made using 2 string and 3 iron as shown below.

The final two are potions of masculinity and femininity. These two potions allow the user to change their in-game sex.

It is made using 1 bottle, 1 egg, and 1 blue or pink dye as shown below.
